Geographical location
|
| Alaska
is a subarctic climate zone. Among the peculiarities of the geographical
location are the longer coastline (10,638 km), 1,481,347 km² of
land, 236,507 km² water (lots of lakes, 12 major rivers, from which
the Yukon (3190 km), together with its tributaries provide 2/3 of the
total flow throughout Alaska), mountain ranges, separating the coastal
areas of continental and Arctic, as well as permafrost covering the northern
third of the state - all these contribute to the climate of Alaska. Alaska
is divided into five climatic zones: 1.The Sea area, which includes the
southeastern part of Alaska, south coast, and south-western islands.
2.The Sea continental zone, covering the west of Bristol Bay, as well
as the west end of the central zone. Summer temperatures are influenced
by the open waters of the Bering Sea; in winter the temperatures are
more continental, as the sea freezes over completely during the coldest
months of the year. 3.The transitional zone between the marine and continental
areas covers the southern part of the Copper River, Cook Inlet, and the
northern borderline of the southern coast. 4.The Continental zone includes
the upper river Copper and its basin, as well as the inner regions of
Alaska. 5.The Arctic zone is an area located north of the Arctic Circle.
Annual precipitation in the maritime zone of the south-eastern part of
Alaska, due to high humidity on the slopes of the mountain ranges, makes
up to 5080 mm, and up to 3810 mm along the northern coastline of the
Gulf of Alaska. Precipitation decreases to about 1752 mm on the southern
slopes of the Alaska Range on the Alaska Peninsula and Aleutian Islands.
Even further to the north, rainfall decreases to 305 mm in the continental
zone, and down to 152 mm in the Arctic zone. Substantial level of annual
precipitation varies depending on the snow that arrives. The average
annual temperature in Alaska ranges from +4°C in the south to -12°C
on the northern mountain range of Brooks in the Arctic zone. The temperature
differences at different times of year are most typical for the central
and eastern parts of the continental interior regions. During the summer
months the temperature normally rises to +21°C and even up to +32°C.
In winter, the absence of sunlight, the temperature drops to -10°C.
The average winter temperature ranges from 1,1°C to -6,6°C.
In the marine zone average summer and winter temperatures vary from +15°C
to -6,6°C. Most Alaskans have not seen the beauty that tourists can see. The pilots say they never get bored. It is really amazing to think that it doesn’t matter which trip you choose, you will experience much of what Alaska has to offer in just one trip. The flight alone gives you a bird’s eye view of Alaska’s wilderness from the time you take off to your lake or stream landing. Glaciers, wildlife, alpine lakes and streams all from your window seat on the float plane. The take off and landing are a thrill in and of itself. Nature in the Cordoba area is amazing with snow-capped mountains and glaciers, rich fauna, lush forests, countless rivers and streams. It combines perfectly with the splendor of outdoor activities: walking and biking, kayaking and canoeing, and, undoubtedly, an unforgettable fishing adventure! There are legends about the great and terrible grizzly bear. In fact, grizzly, living on the coast, are very peaceful, since they can enjoy different kinds of salmon throughout the year. They like fishing! I was lucky enough to sneak a picture of a legendary bear at a distance of 200-300 meters! These photos were later blown up and put on the wall by the fireplace and proudly shown to all our friends and acquaintances. I got acquainted with the state of natural resources. Our 9-days trip was over and we were heading home with lots of new impressions. This was a tour for lovers of the unique nature of fishing and the top quality of fishing and lodging service. Next time I will book cheap tickets through Travelocity Promotional Code, Orbitz Promotion Code, or Expedia Coupon Code beforehand and get comfortable seats in the plane. |
